Action set-pieces except for the opening and the sniper fight are unexciting. You can make gritty, personal Bond films while retaining the core charm of the series, as shown in Casino Royale (which might be the best spy action film ever made, but I have to think about it more), On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and License to Kill, but Skyfall was not it.īond in Skyfall is bland and resembles nothing of his Casino Royale counterpart in his personality, completely lacking in humor and wits. I recognize Skyfall as a good film, but it lacks a lot of enjoyment I would like to see from Bond films. The only two great Bond films that got made in the last thirty years were directed by Martin Campbell.
